Using light therapy for a healthier skin
Skin is actually the body’s largest organ. It helps regulate internal temperature, allows the body to retain fluids (preventing dehydration), and keeps harmful microbes out. Skin diseases are the fourth most common cause of all human diseases, affecting almost one-third of the world’s population.
Common skin conditions include acne, contact dermatitis, benign tumors, cancers, atopic dermatitis (also called eczema), and psoriasis.
How light therapy can be used for healthier skin
Studies have shown that light therapy has the potential to treat or complement treatment of certain skin conditions as it stimulates cell regeneration and cell metabolism.
During treatment, light therapy penetrates to the bottom of the skin's dermis layer and into the subcutaneous fatty layer, stimulating and regenerating the production of collagen and elastin proteins. It increases the skin's metabolism of healthy oxygen and nutritional molecules, causing them to split and reproduce faster. Each time a skin cell splits from the energy caused by the LEDs, it creates two new copies of itself. As new cells emerge, they displace the old, damaged cells that contribute to signs of aging and other common issues of the skin.
This gentle, yet effective treatment is very beneficial as an anti-aging and skin rejuvenation tool.
Red light (623nm): penetrates deeper into the skin to improve skin texture. It stimulates skin circulation, improves elasticity and skin tone, and eliminates fine lines, wrinkles, crow's feet and pigmentation. This wavelength repairs skin damage and stimulates the removal of waste products.
Blue light (470nm): gets least deep into the skin and works mainly superficially. This wavelength helps calm and heal existing blemishes and reduces future breakouts by eliminating acne-causing bacteria. This will reduce blemishes and redness and eliminate and/or prevent skin inflammation.
Yellow light (590nm): reduces inflammation by promoting circulation and removing toxins. This wavelength improves oxygen in the skin cells, instantly giving the skin extra energy and suppleness. Visible redness caused by rosacea or other skin conditions are reduced.
Light therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical face lift alternative, helping the skin maintain elasticity and firmness, while refining texture and smoothing lines and wrinkles.
